Richard is a Councillor for the Barnard Castle West Division on Durham County Council. For information on the Council and to contact Richard in his capacity as a Councillor click here.
One of the things Richard has been involved with is obtaining County Council grants for children's playground improvements in Cotherstone and Marwood Drive, Barnard Castle.
Richard says: "Having somewhere safe and suitable for our children to play is obviously important. Although the Council money is often a minority component of such schemes, having the backing of the Council helps other sources of funding to be accessed. Both of these projects owe their success to dedicated local volunteers: Play@Cotherstone and Barnard Castle Town Council."

Richard also contributes to the community through his work as a school governor and as a member of the Local Strategic Partnership (now the Teesdale Area Action Partnership).
In the Church he is a past member of Bishop's Council and Vice-Chairman of the Diocesan Board of Finance. He currently represents Barnard Castle Deanery on the Board and Diocesan Synod.
